The pea seeds found by archaeologists in the Chernivtsi and Ivano-Frankivsk regions of Ukraine date back to the third millennium BC. The most “ancient” pea seeds that date back to the late Stone Age (more than 20 thousand years ago) were found in Greece (Thessaly), Croatia, Switzerland, western Germany (Württemberg), Upper Austria.

Pea was considered to be the most important food product in ancient Egypt, East Africa and India, pea grains were found during the excavations of Troy, people valued peas in Homeric times. Peas were among the first European plants that colonists planned to grow on the American continent, where it was brought by Christopher Columbus.

Pea dishes were mandatory in the menu of English kings (including Queen Elizabeth).

The protein content in peas is almost the same as in meat, eggs and milk (23 %). The amino acid composition of pea protein differs in the content of almost all amino acids that are essential for a person, including high content of lysine, cystine, tryptophan, arginine and methionine. Peas are rich in minerals: potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, sulfur, zinc, nitrogen, iron ― all these substances help our body to cope with many diseases and infections.
